Moncler vs Canada Goose: Which Brand Deserves Your Money in 2026?

Ask ten people whether Moncler or Canada Goose deserves your money and you’ll get ten confident answers, usually from someone who owns exactly one of them. The two brands sit at the top of the down jacket market, they cost broadly similar money, and they are built for almost completely different lives. Getting the choice right comes down to three questions: how cold it actually gets where you live, how often you leave the house in winter, and how much you care about the silhouette.

The Short Answer

If you need a jacket that works in real cold — the kind that shuts your phone down — Canada Goose wins, and it isn’t close. If your winter is mostly streets, cars, offices, trains and dinner, Moncler is the better jacket and you’ll get more wear out of it. That’s the whole argument in two lines. What follows is the reasoning, with the numbers.

Where Both Brands Actually Stand in 2026

Canada Goose closed its fiscal 2026 (ended March 29, 2026) with revenue of CA$1.53 billion, up 13.3% and the first time the company has crossed the CA$1.5 billion mark. Fourth-quarter revenue rose 17.9% to CA$453.3 million, and full-year direct-to-consumer comparable sales grew 8.4%. Under creative director Haider Ackermann, roughly half of unit sales now come from non-down products — knitwear, fleece, tees, polos — and the Snow Goose by Canada Goose line has become a real second pillar. The share price, meanwhile, has been beaten up: it was trading near a 52-week low of $7.53 in September 2026, down roughly 39% year to date. Widening brand, unchanged core business.

Moncler went the other way. Group revenue for 2025 was €3.13 billion, up 3% at constant currency, split between the Moncler brand at €2.72 billion and Stone Island at €411.2 million, with an operating margin of 29.2%. Founder Remo Ruffini handed the group CEO role to Leo Rongone in April 2026 while staying on as executive chairman and keeping creative direction. In the autumn the company opened its largest flagship anywhere on Fifth Avenue and launched the second LoveFrom, Moncler collection with Jony Ive’s studio — a modular system built around a down-filled Moncore jacket that takes three magnetically attached shells. Moncler is moving further upmarket, not further into the cold.

Warmth: This Is Not a Tie

Here’s a comparison that surprises people. The Canada Goose Expedition Parka uses 625 fill power white duck down. The Moncler Maya uses a 90% down / 10% feather blend, and Moncler states that its down carries a minimum fill power of 710 in³/30g. By that measure, Moncler’s down is the better raw material.

And the Expedition is still dramatically warmer — because fill power grades quality, not quantity. The Expedition is a mid-thigh parka with a 35-inch centre-back length, an Arctic Tech shell, a storm flap, recessed rib-knit cuffs and a snow skirt, rated TEI 5, which is Canada Goose’s top tier for −30 °C and below. The Moncler Maya is a 68 cm short jacket in a lightweight recycled polyester shell with a detachable hood. Less down mass, more exposed surface, nothing sealing the hem or wrists. It’s a beautifully made city jacket, not an arctic one.

Why You Can’t Line Up the Spec Sheets

Canada Goose publishes a formal thermal rating. Moncler doesn’t publish a temperature rating for its jackets at all, and it doesn’t list fill weight on its product pages. So anyone telling you “the Maya is good to −15 °C” is quoting a retailer’s guess, not Moncler. The only honest comparison is construction, and on construction the two products aren’t in the same category: a heavy weather-sealed parka against a light short jacket. Moncler builds the better garment; Canada Goose builds the warmer one.

Price: Moncler Charges More and Insulates Less

Canada Goose lists the standard Expedition Parka at $1,895. Moncler lists the Maya at $2,410, the Maya 70 at $2,530, and the LoveFrom Moncore short down jacket at €2,675. In other words, Moncler’s entry-level icon costs about $500 more than Canada Goose’s warmest production parka.

You are paying for the cut, the quilting, the fabric and the logo — not for fill. If raw warmth per dollar is your metric, this comparison has one winner and it’s over.

One thing that has genuinely converged: fur. Canada Goose announced in June 2021 that it would stop buying fur by the end of that year and cease manufacturing with fur by the end of 2022, and the coyote-ruff “Heritage” Expedition has since been discontinued. The $1,895 Expedition you buy today is fur-free. So is the Maya.

Care, Repairs, and What It’s Worth in Five Years

The care labels are the clearest illustration of the two philosophies. A Canada Goose parka is dry clean only, and machine washing it voids the warranty. Moncler’s Maya, by contrast, is hand wash, no tumble dry, flat dry in the shade — one of the few luxury puffers you can legitimately clean at home, provided you take the aftercare advice seriously (over-packing and hard folds can permanently damage embroideries, patches and leather inserts).

Warranty is where Canada Goose makes its strongest case. Its programme covers defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the product, with paid repairs available for wear and tear; knitwear, footwear, accessories and collaborations are excluded. Note the caveat: improper care, including machine-washing a parka, is on you.

Resale is the underrated argument. Canada Goose runs Generations, its own resale platform, launched in the USA and Canada in 2023. Recent listings include a men’s Expedition in “Very Good” condition at $1,061 against $1,895 new, and a women’s Expedition in “Excellent” condition at $1,327. Holding roughly 55–70% of retail on a used winter coat is almost unheard of in fashion. Moncler’s resale market is deeper but much less predictable: collaboration pieces and hyped colourways hold or climb, while standard colourways soften, and the secondary market is crowded with sellers you can’t verify. Buy Moncler from authorised channels.

So Which One Deserves Your Money?

Buy Canada Goose if: you spend real time outdoors below −15 °C; you want one jacket for the next ten years; the warranty and the resale floor matter to you; and you don’t mind two kilograms on your shoulders and a dry-cleaning bill each spring.

Buy Moncler if: your winter is urban and sits between 0 and −10 °C; you move between car, train, office and restaurant; you want something light enough to pack and easy enough to wash; and the shape matters as much as the temperature rating.

If you want the look without the full outlay: a Chilliwack bomber gets you the Canada Goose presence in a shorter, cheaper, easier-to-wear cut, while a Moncler Vezere gives you a Maya-adjacent silhouette at a lower entry point. Across both brands, a down vest is the cheapest way to extend the same layered look into autumn and spring.

FAQ

Is Moncler or Canada Goose warmer?

Canada Goose, when you compare the top of each range. The Expedition is rated TEI 5 for −30 °C and below; the Maya is a short jacket with no published temperature rating. Flip the comparison to a Canada Goose lightweight down jacket versus a Maya and Moncler can hold its own — the category matters more than the badge.

Is Moncler better quality than Canada Goose?

On down spec, yes: Moncler’s minimum fill power of 710 in³/30g beats the Expedition’s 625. Moncler’s finishing on fabric and quilting is also more refined. Canada Goose counters with heavier shells, more weather-sealing and a hardier build. Materials versus field performance — decide which one you mean by “quality”.

Is a $1,895 Canada Goose parka worth it?

If winter where you live is genuinely hostile and you’ll keep the jacket a decade, the maths works: 55–70% resale value plus a lifetime defect warranty changes the cost per winter dramatically. If your coldest month averages around freezing, you’re paying for warmth you’ll never need.

Do Canada Goose jackets still have fur?

No. The company committed to going fur-free in June 2021, ended fur purchasing that year and stopped manufacturing with fur by the end of 2022. Current Expedition Parkas have no fur ruff.

Can I wash a Moncler Maya at home?

Moncler’s own care label says hand wash, do not bleach, do not tumble dry, flat dry in the shade. That’s more forgiving than a Canada Goose parka, which is dry clean only, but it also means no dryer — mistreat the down and the jacket loses loft.

Both brands are worth owning, and they’re rarely worth owning for the same reason. Browse the full Canada Goose collection for parkas, bombers and vests built around severe cold, or the Moncler collection for short down jackets, long puffers and vests that hold their shape on a city street. Pick the one that matches your actual winter, and you won’t spend the next five years second-guessing it.
