Which Prada shell to pick

Prada's down line runs on three shells, and picking the wrong one is the most common reason a jacket goes back. Re-Nylon is matte and slightly dry under the fingers — it is the only shell Prada still produces at scale, and the safest choice if you want the jacket to pass as unremarkable on a street. High-gloss nylon is the opposite: it catches light hard, photographs bright, and looks expensive in a way matte nylon never will. Heavyweight down uses a thicker face fabric plus more fill, so it sits stiffer across the shoulder and keeps its shape when worn open.

Between sizes, go up on the glossy shells. The face fabric has less give than Re-Nylon and the armhole is cut tighter.

Styles in stock

Five checks when it arrives

  1. Triangle logo. It should sit flush with no gap under the edge. If a fingernail slides underneath, it was glued rather than set into the leather.
  2. Zip pull. Prada uses Lampo or YKK. The pull should feel weighted and return without wobble at the hinge.
  3. Baffle alignment. Stitch lines run parallel to the hem. Crooked baffles are the most obvious tell at arm's length and the thing most reps still get wrong.
  4. Fill recovery. Squeeze a baffle for five seconds and let go — it should spring back in under three. Sluggish recovery means low fill power, not a packing problem.
  5. Lining print. The logo repeat should break cleanly at the side seam, not run through it.

Where this sits in the range

Prada sits above rep Ralph Lauren puffers on price and below rep Dior puffer jackets, which hold a flat $299. If you are weighing brands rather than one jacket, start with rep Moncler puffer jackets — 958 styles, the deepest catalogue we carry — or the lighter rep Burberry puffers.
