Blouson, not jacket — and why that matters

LV calls these blousons because the cut is short and gathered at the hem, the way a bomber sits. That hem elastic is the whole design: it pulls the volume in at the waist and makes the jacket read as deliberate rather than puffy. It also means the length is fixed — a blouson that hangs past the hip is the wrong garment, whatever the size label says.

Monogram placement is the second decision. All-over embossing is loud and reads at ten metres; a single placed monogram at the chest is the version you can wear to an office. We photograph both flat and in daylight because embossing that looks convincing indoors goes flat and shiny under sun.

EcoDown, honestly

EcoDown is recycled polyester fill, not down. It is heavier per unit of warmth, it does not loft the same way, and it will not recover from compression as well over five years. What it does do is stay warm when wet, which real down does not. If you are buying for a wet city rather than a dry cold one, that trade is worth taking.

Comparing houses

LV holds the top of our price band alongside rep Dior puffer jackets, which sit at a flat $299. For something heavier at less money, rep Moose Knuckles puffers start at $195. The matte alternative to monogram is rep Prada Re-Nylon. Full archive: all 44 Louis Vuitton replica pieces.
