Long is a different jacket, not a longer one

A parka block is cut from the ground up. The Expedition sits at mid-thigh with a storm flap and a fur ruff sized to actually break wind; the Longline drops further, past the knee, and is the one that works over a suit. Macmillan sits between them. What does not change is the shoulder and chest — so buying a size up to get more length gets you a boxy jacket with a hem in the same place. Buy your normal size and check the stated back length against a coat you already own.

Everything here runs one size large, same as the short cuts. A medium in a normal jacket is a small here.

Where long parkas fail first

The skirt. Below the waist there is no body heat to keep the fill lofted, so the lower baffles collapse first — usually after one season of being folded into a car boot. Hang these, do not fold them, and shake the hem out before you wear it. If the lower third goes flat within a month, the fill blend is the problem and no amount of shaking will fix it.
